Besides hydrolyzing compact keratin substrates from feather meal and insect meal, it effectively degrades poorly soluble prolamins (zein) present in corn‑soybean diets and other recalcitrant dietary proteins. By breaking disulfide bonds together with peptide bonds, it disassembles rigid protein spatial structures, converts indigestible macromolecular proteins into absorbable small peptides and amino acids. It improves protein digestibility of conventional corn‑soybean formulas and raises the nutritive value of unconventional protein raw materials for livestock and poultry.
